This role is responsible for managing complex construction defect claims from investigation through resolution. You will evaluate coverage, liability, and damages while applying strong technical judgment to challenging claims. The position involves reviewing construction plans, building codes, specifications, and other documentation to determine exposure and appropriate resolution strategies. You will work closely with policyholders, builders, attorneys, and other stakeholders to establish expectations and move claims forward efficiently. For complex and litigated matters, you will help navigate advanced coverage questions, risk transfer considerations, mediation, and litigation. Strong analytical ability, investigative skills, and clear communication will be essential to achieving fair and well-supported claim outcomes. This is an opportunity for an experienced claims professional to take ownership of significant construction-related exposures and contribute to effective resolution strategies.
Accountabilities: Investigate, evaluate, and resolve construction defect claims, including complex and litigated matters.
Review building plans, construction specifications, applicable codes, contracts, and related documentation to assess coverage, liability, damages, and overall exposure.
Analyze claim information and develop well-supported coverage positions and resolution strategies.
Manage ongoing communication with policyholders, builders, attorneys, and other stakeholders, establishing clear expectations and maintaining productive relationships throughout the claims process.
Prepare clear, accurate, and professional written and verbal reports outlining claim findings, coverage determinations, exposure assessments, and recommended courses of action.
Manage claims involving significant financial exposure, including matters with thresholds of $100,000 or more.
Participate in mediations, litigation activities, and other formal dispute-resolution processes as required.
For senior or highly complex claims, evaluate advanced coverage issues, develop risk transfer strategies, coordinate with legal counsel, and drive comprehensive resolution plans.
Identify key risks and issues early and use investigative findings, policy analysis, and available evidence to support timely and appropriate claim decisions.
Develop and execute resolution strategies for complex or high-value claims while balancing coverage obligations, exposure, legal considerations, and business objectives.
Requirements
5–7 years of specialized experience handling construction defect claims.
Active adjuster’s license required.
Demonstrated experience investigating and adjudicating construction defect claims, with strong knowledge of coverage, liability, and damages analysis.
Experience handling complex claims with financial exposures of $100,000 or more.
Strong understanding of construction-related documentation, including building plans, codes, specifications, and other materials relevant to determining liability and damages.
Litigation and mediation experience is preferred, particularly experience managing litigated construction defect matters.
Proven ability to develop and execute resolution strategies for complex or high-value claims.
Strong background in coverage analysis and risk transfer strategies.
Ability to work effectively with policyholders, contractors, attorneys, counsel, and other stakeholders throughout the claim lifecycle.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex claim matters clearly, accurately, and professionally.
Strong investigative, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of complex claims through resolution.
