    About this role

JOB DESCRIPTION : CNC FIBER LASER METAL
    CUTTING MACHINE OPERATOR
Company : Kanha Metal Works (KMW)
    Employment Type : Full-time / Contractual
Location : KMW Workshop / Factory
    Experience : 2-5 years preferred
    1. Job Purpose
Operate CNC fiber laser cutting machines to cut metal sheets and plates according to
approved drawings and cutting programs, ensuring dimensional accuracy, consistent
quality, safe operation, efficient material utilisation, and timely production. Coordination
with programming, stores, fabrication, press brake, and quality teams is essential.
Nesting and CAD/CAM knowledge is an advantage.
    2. Key Responsibilities
    A. Machine Operation and Job Preparation
Verify material grade, thickness, sheet dimensions, job specifications, drawing
revisions, and cutting programs before production.
Load and unload sheets safely using approved handling methods and
    equipment.
Select approved programs and verify cutting parameters, including laser power,
speed, focus, nozzle, and assist-gas settings, as prescribed for the job.
Follow machine start-up, setup, test-cut, first-piece approval, operation,
    changeover, and shutdown procedures.
Interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, profiles, holes, slots, and
cutting instructions; clarify discrepancies before proceeding.
Monitor cutting performance, identify faults, and handle finished components
    carefully to prevent damage.
    B. Nesting and Material Optimisation
Verify approved nesting layouts and component arrangements against material
    specifications and production requirements.
Support efficient sheet utilisation by reducing unnecessary gaps, offcuts, and
scrap while considering part spacing, cutting sequence, and component stability.
Coordinate with the nesting programmer or supervisor on layout corrections,
compatible job combinations, and reusable material remnants.
Candidates with practical nesting software, CAD/CAM, or CNC programming
    experience will be preferred.
    C. Quality Control
Inspect first-cut components and obtain approval where required before batch
    production.
Check dimensions, profiles, hole positions, and edge quality using suitable
    measuring instruments.
Identify incomplete cuts, burrs, dross, heat distortion, incorrect profiles, and
surface damage; segregate defective parts and report issues.
Make authorised parameter adjustments and verify results as instructed.
Maintain required records of production, inspections, rejections, material
remnants, and machine downtime; label and transfer completed parts safely to
    the next operation.
    D. Maintenance and Production Coordination
Check cutting-head consumables, nozzles, protective windows, assist-gas
supply, cooling, and extraction systems according to prescribed procedures.
Perform authorised routine checks and cleaning; replace consumables only when
    trained and authorised.
Report machine alarms, breakdowns, material shortages, program errors, and
    production delays promptly.
Coordinate with programming, stores, production, press brake, fabrication, and
quality teams to meet schedules and minimise downtime, changeovers, wastage,
    and rework.
Maintain machine logs and keep the equipment and surrounding work area
    organised.
    E. Safety and Housekeeping
Follow KMW and manufacturer safety procedures, use prescribed PPE, and
    maintain required ventilation and extraction.
Never bypass guards, enclosures, interlocks, or other safety devices, or access
enclosed laser-processing areas without authorisation under approved
    procedures.
Handle heavy sheets, sharp edges, hot metal, compressed gases, and electrical
    systems safely.
Follow approved lockout and hazardous-energy isolation procedures before
    relevant maintenance work.
Keep material racks and walkways clear and report incidents, near misses,
equipment defects, and unsafe conditions immediately.
    3. Qualifications and Experience
ITI in Fitter, Machinist, Sheet Metal, Mechanical, or a related trade preferred; a
Mechanical Diploma or relevant technical training is an advantage.
Preferably 2-5 years of hands-on CNC fiber laser cutting experience in metal
    fabrication or manufacturing.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and material
    specifications.
Working knowledge of CNC controls, cutting parameters, nozzle selection, assist
gases, focus settings, and routine troubleshooting.
    Experience with mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, or other relevant metals;
CAD/CAM and nesting software experience is an advantage.
Ability to use measuring instruments and understand work and safety instructions
in a language understood by the candidate.
    4. Required Skills
Practical CNC fiber laser operation and job setup.
Accurate drawing interpretation and dimensional inspection.
Ability to identify cutting defects and resolve routine issues within authorised
    limits.
Responsible material handling, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
Effective coordination with production teams and focus on safety, productivity,
    and material efficiency.
    5. Wage and Employment Terms Nesting, CAD/CAM, and material-optimisation skills may support a higher wage, subject
to practical assessment. Final wages will depend on experience, cutting accuracy, setup
    capability, and demonstrated technical skills.
Payment will follow recorded attendance and the agreed wage cycle. Working hours,
overtime, weekly rest, leave, and statutory benefits will follow company policy and
    applicable Indian labour laws.
    6. Selection Process
    1. Screening of relevant machine-operating experience.
    2. Practical assessment of setup, program selection, and material handling.
    3. Drawing interpretation, measurement, and cutting-quality assessment.
    4. Basic troubleshooting and machine-safety evaluation.
    5. Nesting or CAD/CAM assessment, where applicable.
    6. Final selection by an authorised KMW representative.
    7. Performance Expectations
Produce components within specified tolerances, maintain consistent cutting quality,
minimise scrap and rework, follow safety procedures, maintain required records, and
meet production schedules. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate
nesting skills and improve material utilisation.
