Cloud System Engineer

As a Cloud Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining Azure-based cloud solutions for our organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance, security, and scalability of Azure cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate is experienced with Microsoft Azure and PowerShell scripting. Creating cloud environments from start to finish and supporting Field Engineers with supporting their cloud environments. In addition, the Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing maintenance plans and maintaining backups for cloud and SAAS based systems. Learning new technologies is a major driver of success within this position.

The successful applicant must have a track record of being a tech lead on projects. Able to work alone or as part of a team, self-starter with initiative. They will need to think on their feet to find solutions to problems as well as input into long term strategy and roadmap for products. Automation and relieving day to day BAU is key (thinking/working smarter). They will be joining a team responsible for both BAU ticket type work and Engineering/Architecture work with split responsibilities between these areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Collaborate with architects and developers to design Azure-based solutions that meet project requirements and align with best practices.
• Deploy, configure, and manage Azure resources and services, ensuring high availability, reliability, and scalability.
• Implement security best practices, including identity and access management, data encryption, and compliance standards to protect our cloud infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain monitoring solutions to proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks, resource utilization, and cost optimization.
• Create and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts using tools like Azure Resource Manager templates or Terraform for efficient provisioning and management of resources.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and backup strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues related to Azure infrastructure promptly.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and cybersecurity professionals, to ensure seamless integration and alignment with organizational goals.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of Azure environments, configurations, and procedures.
• Assist with planning and implementing systems and network integrations following M&A activity.
• Work closely with IT managers/supervisors to develop strategy and architecture that will benefit the organization. May maintain contract compliance for voice and data vendors.
• Work with field personnel to assess, troubleshoot and resolve problems pertaining to voice and data communication systems or service. May contact vendors or other personnel as needed.
• Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune appropriately.
• Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures. Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.
• Provides third level support to the field offices and affiliate office personnel on problems and issues related to hardware, software, voice applications, networks and business applications.
• Responsible for configuring, documenting, implementing and troubleshooting the following software products; Microsoft Server Operating Systems and Email Systems, Backup products, Anti-Virus products, Anti-SPAM products, and Remote Access methods.
• Trouble-shoot server hardware and operating systems.
• Administration of the server operating and email systems.
• Oversees daily backup of server data files, media, and off-site storage administration.
• Document the design, operation and troubleshooting of technology platforms and procedures.
• Perform all activities in keeping with established change management and approval procedures.
• Participate in the Newmark On-Call schedule for off-hours support of key systems.
• Other special projects and technology initiatives as required

SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelors Degree - computer related field preferred but not required. (Equivalent experience will suffice)
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Azure based deployments, experience with other cloud platforms a plus
• 5+ years Windows system administration experience and/or designing solutions with technologies like: MSSQL, Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, IIS 7 & 8, Exchange, Active Directory
• 5+ years of experience with Virtualization: Virtualization Server, Storage, Desktop, Network; Reducing Sprawl
• Experience with Cloud Services in IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, DaaS and upcoming trends in cloud space
• PowerApps skills: Power Automate/Power BI/PowerApps
• Cloud technologies (Azure primary, but also needs AWS and Google experience)
• Automation technologies (Ansible, Terraform, etc.)
• Good PowerShell/scripting to include reporting and automation tasks.
• DNS, DHCP, and Remote Desktop Services
• Azure certifications, such as Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, or Azure DevOps Engineer, are highly desirable.
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing Azure-based solutions.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, ARM templates, or Terraform.
• Strong knowledge of Azure services, including VMs, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, and Azure Active Directory.
• Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
• Familiarity with cloud security best practices and compliance standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Understanding of mail flow and ability to troubleshoot issues effectively and engineer accordingly
• Active Directory in complex environments, Azure AD design, management and maintenance
• Identity management
• Migration tools and experience using BitTitan or similar tooling across cloud and on prem platforms
• Good documentation skills
• Track record of introducing/improving processes within their area
• Previous participation in M&A integration activities and project planning
• Experience with disaster recovery and planning concepts.
