We are seeking an experienced Java Developer with 5+ years of backend development experience who is passionate about building scalable applications and working with event-driven architectures. You will develop Spring Boot services supporting payments, settlement, reconciliation, ledger processing and account management. The role requires strong Java, PostgreSQL and Kafka skills, with the ability to debug and improve distributed systems. Camunda and Zeebe experience is valuable for workflow automation and orchestration assignments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and integrate REST APIs, event consumers and external service adapters.
• Implement reliable Kafka processing with appropriate retries, idempotency and failure recovery.
• Design and maintain PostgreSQL schemas, queries and database migrations; work with MongoDB where required.
• Maintain financial calculations, transaction boundaries, audit trails and approval controls.
• Contribute to Camunda and Zeebe workflows, BPMN processes and approval handlers where required by the service assignment.
• Write clean, maintainable code and automated unit, API and integration tests.
• Debug distributed-system issues using logs, metrics, database queries and messaging diagnostics.
• Collaborate with Developers, Architects, QA and DevOps; participate in code reviews and improve CI workflows.
• Manage changes and branching through Git and support application releases and upgrades.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 5+ years of backend development experience with hands-on Java development.
• Programming: Strong Java 17 or later, object-oriented design, collections, streams, exception handling, concurrency fundamentals, BigDecimal and date or time handling.
• Frameworks and APIs: Spring Boot, Spring MVC, dependency injection, REST APIs, validation and transaction management.
• Databases: Spring Data JPA or Hibernate and strong relational database design and SQL skills. PostgreSQL experience is strongly preferred.
• Kafka and architecture: Practical Kafka development and microservice design, including consumer groups, partitioning, ordering, retries, eventual consistency and duplicate handling.
• Security and testing: Spring Security or OAuth2 fundamentals, JUnit, Mockito and tests for business behaviour and service integrations.
• Engineering tools: Git, Maven or Gradle, Docker, CI pipelines, code reviews and production troubleshooting.

Nice to Have Skills

• Camunda and Zeebe: Hands-on Camunda 8, BPMN modelling, Java job handlers or workers, process variables, message correlation, retries and workflow recovery.
• Reactive development: Spring WebFlux, Project Reactor, R2DBC, reactive transaction management and StepVerifier.
• Additional data technologies: MongoDB, reactive MongoDB repositories, Redis, Caffeine and PostgreSQL JSONB or materialized views.
• Reliable event processing: Spring Cloud Stream, transactional outbox, event replay, sagas and compensating actions.
• Integration technologies: Spring Integration, JMS or IBM MQ, SFTP, SOAP, WSDL/XSD and JAXB.
• Financial domain: SWIFT MT/MX, ISO 20022, payment gateways, settlement, reconciliation, ledgers, transfer agency or fund administration.
• Testing and rules: Testcontainers, WireMock, Awaitility, WebTestClient, Groovy or configurable business-rule engines.
• Delivery and operations: GitHub Actions, SonarQube, JaCoCo, Jib, Vault, Micrometer, Prometheus, Datadog or OpenTelemetry, AWS, Kubernetes, Helm or Argo CD.
• Service modernization: Maintaining or upgrading Java 11, 17, 21 or 25 and Spring Boot 2, 3 or 4 services.
