Position TitleFinance Manager Banking & Financial ControllershipLocationDar es Salaam, Tanzania Reports ToManaging Director / CEOExperience Required5 plus years in Finance, with direct exposure to banking relationships, credit facilities, or trade finance strongly preferredAbout the Role
This is a high-visibility finance role based in Dar es Salaam, at the intersection of banking relationship management and financial controllership for the company's Tanzania operations. Accounting is centralized through the India team, and Tanzania tax preparation is handled by a local CPA this role is the person on the ground who owns bank financing, keeps cash flow and reporting visible, and holds the local finance ecosystem accountable. It is a controllership-and-banking role, not a bookkeeping role, and offers genuine ownership over a function the company is actively investing in.
Key Responsibilities
1. Bank Financing & Banking Relationships Primary Mandate
¢ Own and actively grow the company's banking relationships in Tanzania this is the core deliverable of the role, not a side task.
¢ Source and negotiate credit facilities, working capital lines, bank guarantees, letters of credit, and performance/insurance bonds required for ongoing and upcoming projects.
¢ Track facility utilization, renewal dates, and covenant compliance across all banking relationships; flag renewals in advance.
¢ Build a structured pipeline of financing needs against the project pipeline proactively identify where financing will be required 36 months out, not reactively when cash is tight.
2. Financial Controllership Cash Flow & Reporting
¢ Maintain a live, accurate Quarterly, Monthly and weekly cash position and rolling cash flow forecast.
¢ Own the monthly MIS/dashboard to the MD & CEO: cash position, receivables aging, bank facility utilization, project-wise cost vs. budget.
¢ Monitor budgets against actuals for Tanzania operations; flag variances with root cause, not just numbers.
¢ Coordinate with the India accounting team to ensure Tanzania-side transactions, invoices, and supporting documents reach them on time and in usable form this role is the bridge, not the bookkeeper.
¢ Review (not prepare) financial statements produced by the India team for Tanzania operations before they go to the MD/CEO.
3. Tax & Statutory Compliance Oversight Supervisory
¢ Act as the point of accountability for Tanzania tax and statutory compliance, working through the local CPA who performs the technical preparation and filing.
¢ Maintain a compliance calendar (VAT, corporate tax, PAYE, statutory filings, audit deadlines) and ensure the CPA delivers against it on time.
¢ Review CPA outputs for completeness and business-sense before submission; escalate any material tax exposure or audit finding to the MD/CEO directly.
¢ Coordinate the annual statutory/tax audit end-to-end scheduling, document assembly, and liaison with auditors with the CPA handling technical tax positions.
4. Team Coordination & Local Supervision
¢ Directly supervise the local accountants, who are responsible for petty cash management and routine day-to-day bank transactions at the Dar/ Dodoma offices.
¢ Set clear weekly/monthly checkpoints with the local accountants; petty cash and routine banking should require oversight, not hands-on execution, from this role.
¢ Serve as the single point of coordination between the India accounting team, the Tanzania CPA, the local accountant, and the MD/CEO no information should sit unclearly owned between these four parties.
Core Competency: Liaisoning & Persistence
¢ Demonstrated track record of pursuing a difficult approval, deal, or facility through multiple rounds of resistance until it closed not giving up after an initial rejection.
¢ Genuinely comfortable being told 'no' treats it as information to work around, not a stopping point; keeps escalating through the bank's own hierarchy or alternative contacts when the first door doesn't open.
¢ Strong day-to-day liaisoning instinct proactively stays visible with bank contacts between formal meetings (calls, check-ins, updates) so the relationship doesn't go cold and requests don't sit unanswered.
¢ High personal drive persistent without being reckless, and able to keep pushing professionally even under repeated resistance.
Qualifications & Experience Required
¢ Bachelor's/Master's in Finance, Commerce, or Accounting; MBA (Finance) or progress toward a professional finance qualification is a plus but not mandatory.
¢ 35 years of experience in finance roles, with meaningful, hands-on exposure to bank facilities, credit proposals, working capital financing, or trade finance instruments (LCs, bank guarantees) this is the single most important experience filter for this role.
¢ Comfortable reading and preparing financial statements, cash flow statements, and budget-vs-actual analysis; strong Excel skills required.
¢ Prior exposure to construction/infrastructure, EPC, or project-based businesses is a strong plus given the nature of financing needs (project-linked facilities, bonds, guarantees).
¢ Willingness to relocate to and be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
¢ Professional, confident communication style with genuine persistence this role will represent the company directly to bank relationship managers and credit teams, and must be willing to keep pushing a request through multiple follow-ups rather than letting it go quiet.
¢ Prior team supervision experience preferred, even if limited to one or two direct reports.
How This Role Fits with the Wider Finance Team
This role does not work in isolation, and is not expected to personally handle every part of the finance function. It works alongside:
¢ A Tanzania-based CPA, who prepares and files tax returns and handles technical tax compliance this role tracks deadlines, coordinates, and reviews, rather than preparing tax filings directly.
¢ An India-based accounting team, who own day-to-day bookkeeping and financial statement preparation this role is the bridge ensuring Tanzania-side documentation reaches them accurately and on time, and reviews their output before it goes to the MD/CEO.
¢ A local accountant (direct report), who manages petty cash and routine day-to-day bank transactions at the Dar es Salaam office, under this role's supervision.
This role owns bank financing and banking relationships outright, and is directly accountable for cash flow visibility, budget monitoring, and reporting to the MD & CEO.
How to Apply
