About this role
We are a fast-growing startup building a B2B energy and fuel-logistics platform delivering fuel and energy-as-a-service to enterprise customers (Amazon delivery stations, DG-powered sites, and more) through an asset-light, rider-led network. As we scale across cities and clients, we are looking for a commercially sharp finance professional to own business finance and FP& A. This is not a back-office role. You will be the independent, skeptical voice in the room, the person who owns the numbers behind the business, defines and defends the metrics that matter, and challenges assumptions before money is spent, not after. You will partner closely with Operations, Sales, and Growth to turn a fast-moving operating engine into a well-understood, profitable P& L.
Responsibilities:
- Key Metrics and Unit Economics: Own the definition, integrity, and reporting of the core business KPIs: contribution margin per liter / per delivery / per order, cost-to-serve, gross margin, route and rider utilization, throughput, and realization. Be the single source of truth for how the business is actually doing.
- FP& A - Planning and Forecasting: Own the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), budgets, and rolling forecasts. Build driver-based models that tie operating drivers (volumes, sites, riders, and pricing) to financial outcomes and keep the forecast honest as reality changes.
- Business Partnering (challenge, don't just report): Act as a first-principles, skeptical partner to Ops, Sales, and Growth. Pressure-test business cases, question spend and pricing, and say no or prove it when the numbers don't hold constructively and with evidence.
- P& L Ownership and Profitability: Own segment-, client-, and city-level P& Ls. Explain what is genuinely driving margin (and margin leakage), flag risks early, and drive actions that improve contribution and unit economics.
- MIS, Dashboards, and Insight: Build management dashboards and actuals-vs. -plan-vs. -forecast variance analysis with clear, decision-ready narratives, insight, and recommendations, not just tables of numbers.
- Decision Support and Business Cases: Evaluate pricing decisions, new client contracts, city/route expansion, and capex-vs-opex trade-offs; quantify ROI, payback, and downside so leadership can decide with eyes open.
- Fundraising and Investor Reporting: Support board and investor MIS, metric packs, and data-room requests; ensure every number stands up to investor and diligence scrutiny.
- Working Capital and Cash Insight: Partner on working-capital-heavy fuel procurement, receivables, and cash-conversion cycles; track burn, runway, and cash efficiency and surface levers to improve them.
Requirements:
- CA / MBA (Finance) / CFA with 1-3 years in FP& A, business finance, investment banking, consulting, or startup finance.
- Prior high-growth startup experience in marketplace, logistics, quick commerce, mobility, or energy is a strong plus.
- Comfort working hands-on with large operational datasets to build metrics from the ground up.
- Strong FP& A and financial-modeling skills, driver-based P& Ls, unit economics, and scenario analysis.
- A skeptical, first-principles mindset willing to dig, challenge the business, and be the truth-teller on numbers.
- Fluency in translating operating metrics into financial outcomes (and back again).
- Advanced Excel, SQL, and BI tools (Power BI / Tableau / Metabase) are a strong advantage.
- Storytelling with data and strong stakeholder management with commercial and operations leaders.
- High ownership and comfort operating amid ambiguity and speed.
