Backend Engineer - Python

Job Description

Role Overview: Join our dynamic team as a Backend Engineer, where you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the backend services that power real-time voice workflows and product APIs. This role is crucial for ensuring low latency and high reliability in our systems, utilizing AI-assisted coding to enhance efficiency and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Build Python services using FastAPI for both customer-facing and internal APIs.
• Design systems for call orchestration, routing, retries, and event-driven state handling.
• Improve system latency and reliability, focusing on p95 and p99 metrics to drive measurable improvements.
• Develop robust integrations, effectively manage edge cases, and consistently reduce failure rates.
• Own the observability of systems, quickly identify the root causes of production issues, and implement long-term solutions.

Required Qualifications

• 2 to 4 years of backend experience with Python, preferably using FastAPI.
• Strong understanding of HTTP, WebSockets, queues, and distributed systems.
• Proven experience in building production systems that handle concurrency, scale, and failure modes efficiently.
• Excellent debugging, performance profiling, and database query tuning skills.
• Demonstrated ownership mindset, proactively addressing issues without waiting for direction.

Preferred Qualifications/Good To Have

• Experience with low-latency or real-time systems, streaming, or event-driven architectures.
• Exposure to Voice AI technologies, including ASR, TTS, VAD, and conversation state management.
• Multi-cloud experience, particularly with Azure and GCP.
