Backend Developer (Node.js)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Backend Developer to join our core engineering team. In this role, you will build and maintain the scalable backend architecture powering our enterprise-level real-time communication platform, with a strong emphasis on low-latency APIs, WebSockets, and WebRTC integrations.

You are a backend expert in the Node.js/Nest.js ecosystem, with proven experience delivering high-performance, secure services. You will write robust code, optimize systems under load, and collaborate with frontend and infra teams to drive product reliability.

Responsibilities

• Architect & Develop: Design and implement scalable RESTful / GraphQL APIs and real - time features using TypeScript, Node.js, and Nest.js, focusing on messaging, notifications, and voice / video call backends.
• Real - Time Systems: Build and maintain high - performance WebSocket servers(Socket.io or raw) for bidirectional communication; integrate WebRTC for peer - to - peer streaming, including TURN/ STUN server handling.
• Caching & State Management : Use Redis for pub / sub messaging, caching, session storage, real- time presence, and latency reduction in distributed systems.
• Background Processing: Implement resilient job queues and async task systems(e.g., BullMQ with Redis, Agenda) for notifications, media processing, data cleanup, and retries.
• Database Management: Design efficient MongoDB schemas, write complex aggregation pipelines, ensure data consistency, indexing, and high availability for real - time workloads.
• Code Quality & Best Practices: Write clean, testable TypeScript code; enforce Git workflows, code reviews, CI / CD pipelines, and microservices patterns with dependency injection.
• Problem Solving: Debug distributed systems issues like race conditions in WebSockets, optimize queries under heavy load, and scale services horizontally.
• Collaboration: Work with cross - functional teams to align backend services with frontend needs and mentor junior developers on backend best practices.

Required Skills

• Experience: 4+ years in backend software development, with 2+ years in Node.js/Nest.js.
• Language Proficiency: Deep expertise in TypeScript (advanced types, generics, type safety).
• Backend Mastery: Expert in Node.js and Nest.js (modules, middleware, guards, microservices).
• Real-Time Communication: Proven track record with enterprise real-time apps.
• Real-Time Communication: Strong WebSockets experience (Socket.io/raw).
• Real-Time Communication: Hands-on WebRTC integration (P2P, SFUs, TURN/STUN).
