Back End Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Build and maintain FastAPI and Django services with tests, typed interfaces, and OpenAPI docs, containerized and deployed to GKE through Cloud Build and Artifact Registry.
• Implement Kafka consumers and producers, Temporal workflows and activities, and Prefect or Airflow pipelines for batch work.
• Build agent tools over the data plane with idempotency, authorization checks, and structured errors.
• Write data pipelines on Kafka, MongoDB, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, and BigQuery for new sources and derived metrics.
• Use Memorystore Redis for caching and rate limiting, and Secret Manager for every credential.
• Help complete the ECS-to-GKE migration: Dockerfiles, manifests, health checks, and code changes for GCP services.
• Instrument your services with OpenTelemetry, define SLOs in Cloud Monitoring, and join the on-call rotation.
• Take part in design reviews and grow into ownership of a service area within a year.

Preferred candidate profile

• 3 to 5 years of Python backend engineering with FastAPI or Django in production.
• MongoDB or a relational database in production, with clean data modeling and an understanding of indexes.
• Docker, Git, and CI as daily tools; async basics and message queues or Kafka.
• Tests as part of how you work, not a separate task.
• You ask about the customer problem before writing code.
