As a Backend Engineer, you’ll design, build, and maintain the server-side systems that power our applications. You’ll focus on how data is stored, processed, and served via APIs—ensuring our services are performant, secure, reliable, and scalable. Key responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain backend services like procedure/functions linked to APIs for integrations. - Build and optimise data models, database queries, and storage strategies. - Ensure high performance and reliability through profiling, monitoring, and tuning. - Implement secure-by-design practices (authentication/authorisation, data protection, secure coding). - Design scalable architectures and contribute to system design decisions. - Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code; contribute to code reviews and engineering standards. - Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive preventative improvements. - Collaborate with frontend engineers, product, QA, and platform/SRE teams to deliver end-to-end outcomes. - Document APIs, services, and operational runbooks to support long-term maintainability. Skills & Experience - Strong backend engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and distributed systems basics. - Experience building server-side applications and APIs (REST and/or event-driven patterns). - Solid understanding of databases like PostgreSQL, indexing, transactions, and data consistency. - Practical experience with testing strategies (unit/integration), CI/CD, and version control. - Ability to design systems that handle high throughput and large volumes of operational tasks. - Strong problem-solving skills and a language-agnostic mindset. - We’re open to engineers proficient in any of the following: Python, Java, C++, C#, Clojure, CoffeeScript, F#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, TypeScript, Scala.
