About this role
We are seeking an experienced Backend Developer with 3-5 years of hands-on experience in developing, maintaining, and optimizing scalable server-side applications. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Node.js, Express.js, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, along with experience building secure RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services. The candidate will collaborate with frontend developers, technical leads, and other stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-performance backend solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain server-side applications using Node.js and Express.js.
- Build, maintain, and optimize RESTful APIs for integration with frontend applications and external services.
- Design and manage relational databases using PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design, complex SQL queries, indexing, and query optimization.
- Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms using JWT and other industry-standard practices.
- Ensure data security, integrity, and protection through appropriate validation, encryption, access controls, and secure coding practices.
- Identify and resolve backend bugs, performance bottlenecks, and production issues.
- Write clean, reusable, maintainable, and well-documented code following established development standards.
- Implement unit and integration tests to ensure application reliability and code quality.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, UI/UX teams, QA engineers, and technical leads to deliver features efficiently.
- Integrate third-party APIs and external services as required by business needs.
- Monitor application performance, troubleshoot errors, and contribute to improving system reliability and scalability.
- Use Git for version control and participate in code reviews and collaborative development workflows.
- Participate in Agile development activities, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
- Contribute to application deployment, configuration, and maintenance across development, testing, and production environments.
Required Skills and Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in backend development.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) and Node.js.
- Hands-on experience with Express.js and backend application architecture.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or MySQL, including complex SQL queries, database design, indexing, and performance optimization.
- Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs and third-party services.
- Practical knowledge of authentication, authorization, JWT, API security, and data validation.
- Familiarity with asynchronous programming, error handling, and debugging in Node.js applications.
- Experience with Git, unit testing, and integration testing.
- Understanding of application performance optimization, scalability, and secure coding practices.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with Docker and containerization.
- Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Exposure to microservices architecture and message queues.
- Familiarity with GraphQL APIs.
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and collaborative software development practices.
