AWS DevOps / IoT Integration Engineer

About the Role

Magen Daniel Systems LLP is looking for an experienced AWS DevOps Consultant and Backend Technical Mentor to manage our AWS infrastructure and provide ongoing technical guidance to our in-house backend development team.

We already have two junior backend developers working on the application. The selected consultant will guide them, review their technical decisions and deployments, help resolve complex issues, and ensure that our AWS infrastructure and backend architecture follow production-level standards.

This is a remote, part-time contract position. It is primarily a management, advisory, and mentoring role, with hands-on technical work when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor the company's existing AWS infrastructure

• Guide and mentor two junior backend developers

• Review backend architecture, database design, APIs, deployments, and technical decisions

• Help the development team plan tasks and follow AWS and backend best practices

• Manage AWS EC2 application servers and Linux environments

• Manage AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, including configuration, security, backups, restoration, monitoring, and performance

• Review and improve backend APIs used by mobile applications and IoT devices

• Guide the team on production deployment, Docker, Git, and CI/CD processes

• Configure and review IAM roles, VPCs, security groups, SSL certificates, DNS, Nginx, and load balancers

• Set up and review CloudWatch logs, monitoring, alerts, and application-health checks

• Ensure proper backup, disaster-recovery, access-control, and security procedures

• Troubleshoot complex AWS, server, PostgreSQL, API, networking, and deployment issues

• Review AWS usage and recommend improvements for performance, reliability, security, and cost

• Conduct regular technical reviews and provide clear instructions to the development team

• Maintain technical documentation for infrastructure, deployment, and recovery procedures

Required Experience

• 3–4 years of hands-on experience with AWS, DevOps, backend infrastructure, or cloud application management

• Strong practical experience with AWS EC2 and Linux server administration

• Strong experience with AWS RDS for PostgreSQL

• Experience managing production backend applications and REST APIs

• Experience with PostgreSQL backups, recovery, security, monitoring, and performance optimization

• Practical experience with Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines

• Knowledge of Nginx, SSL certificates, DNS, load balancers, and server security

• Good understanding of AWS IAM, VPC, security groups, networking, and access-control practices

• Experience with CloudWatch logs, alerts, dashboards, and production monitoring

• Ability to review technical work and explain solutions clearly to junior developers

• Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and mentoring skills

• Good written and spoken English

Preferred Skills

• Experience with AWS IoT Core, MQTT, IoT devices, or device-to-cloud integration

• Experience with Lambda, API Gateway, S3, CloudFront, Route 53, and Secrets Manager

• Experience supporting backend systems for Flutter or other mobile applications

• Knowledge of Python, Node.js, or another backend-development language

• Experience with GPS trackers, telematics, OTA updates, or IoT safety products

• Familiarity with Terraform or CloudFormation
