Automation Tester

Role & responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain automation frameworks covering front-end (Angular UI) and back-end (API, integration, and data) testing
• Select and apply suitable frameworks for each layer, based on the frameworks used on the program, and keep the framework design modular and maintainable
• Develop automated functional, regression, smoke, and end-to-end tests for Angular applications deployed on AWS
• Develop and execute API automation for services built on API Gateway, AppSync, and Lambda, and for event-driven flows using Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, and SNS
• Write and execute SQL queries to validate data integrity across Aurora PostgreSQL, Oracle, and other stores, and validate data pipeline outputs built on Glue and PySpark
• Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins so tests run on every build and deployment
• Analyze test results, triage failures, and distinguish genuine defects from automation, environment, and data issues; log findings in JIRA with clear, reproducible steps
• Support test data management with reusable, environment-independent data strategies that avoid PHI or real member data
• Cross-train backend and UI engineers on basic test automation, and work with the Tech Leads to make automated tests part of the definition of done
• Contribute to test planning, sprint ceremonies, and estimation, and report automation coverage and quality metrics to leadership
• Cover the full SDLC from a quality perspective: requirements review, test design, execution, defect analysis, release sign-off, and support
• Continuously evaluate new tools and practices to improve coverage, execution speed, and reliability

Preferred candidate profile:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
• 6 to 8 years of hands-on experience in test automation
• Demonstrated experience with more than one test automation framework, covering both front-end and back-end testing (must have)
• Strong experience automating web UI tests, including cross-browser execution and maintainable design patterns such as the Page Object Model
• Strong experience with API test automation for REST services (for example Rest Assured or Postman), including integration and event-driven flows
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or Java
• Ability to write SQL queries for backend data validation across relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and familiarity with NoSQL stores such as MongoDB and DynamoDB
• Experience integrating automation suites into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent, with GitHub for version control
• Working awareness of AWS and container concepts: EKS, ECS, Docker, OpenShift, VPC, RDS, Security Groups, Terraform, encryption, and IAM
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle: design, configuration, testing, debugging, implementation, and support of large-scale, business-centric, process-based applications
• Strong defect analysis skills, with the ability to separate environment issues, data issues, and genuine application defects from automation failures
• Familiarity with HIPAA requirements, specifically the prohibition on using PHI or real member data in test environments or automation scripts
• Good written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and reporting quality metrics
