Australian Accountant Xero, BAS ,Tax Return and Payroll

Role & responsibilities

We are an established Australian accounting and taxation practice seeking an experienced and motivated Australian Accountant to join our growing team in India.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with strong Australian accounting and taxation experience who is looking for a long-term career with direct exposure to an Australian CPA-led practice.

1. Australian Taxation & Financial Statements

• Prepare Australian Individual, Company, Trust and Partnership Income Tax Returns.
• Prepare annual financial statements, tax reconciliations and supporting workpapers.
• Handle tax adjustments, depreciation schedules, CGT calculations and Division 7A matters.
• Assist with FBT calculations and other Australian taxation compliance requirements.
• Ensure tax returns and financial statements are accurate and ready for senior review.

2. BAS, IAS & GST

• Prepare and reconcile Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).
• Perform GST and PAYG withholding reconciliations.
• Identify and resolve GST coding errors and discrepancies.

3. Bookkeeping & Management Accounting

• Manage Australian client accounts using Xero and other accounting software.
• Perform bank, credit card, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and management reports.
• Process month-end and year-end adjustments.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and working papers.

4. Australian Payroll

• Process Australian payroll, Single Touch Payroll (STP) and superannuation.
• Reconcile payroll liabilities, PAYG withholding and employee entitlements.
• Assist with payroll compliance and reporting.

5. Client Communication & Team Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with Australian team members and clients.
• Manage assigned tasks independently and meet agreed deadlines.
• Identify accounting issues proactively and recommend solutions.
• Maintain confidentiality and high professional standards.

Preferred candidate profile

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on Australian accounting and taxation experience.
• Practical experience preparing Australian Income Tax Returns, including Company and Trust Tax Returns.
• Experience preparing annual financial statements and tax workpapers.
• Experience preparing BAS, GST and reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of Australian payroll, STP and superannuation.
• Previous experience working with Australian accounting firms or Australian accounting outsourcing practices.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are mandatory.
• Prior client-facing experience, including direct communication with Australian clients, is essential.
• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and handle client queries professionally.
• Strong attention to detail, accountability and problem-solving skills.

Highly Desirable

• Strong hands-on experience with Xero accounting software.
• Experience with Australian tax preparation software such as Xero Tax, MYOB , Quick Books, Karbon or Reckon Elite.
• Knowledge of Division 7A, CGT and FBT.
• Relevant accounting qualifications such as B.Com, M.Com, CA Inter, CA or ACCA.

Important: Candidates must have prior Australian accounting and taxation experience. Applicants with only Indian accounting or taxation experience will not be considered.
