About the Data and Analytics Function: By joining the Data, Analytics and AI Hub within Officeworks’ Global Capability Centre (GCC), you will play a pivotal role in enabling business growth and performance through insight, intelligence and innovation. You will support executing the strategy and accelerate the shift to a more digital and AI-native organization. You’ll help build advanced capabilities that sit at the core of how the business understands customers, informs decisions, invests wisely, and delivers measurable value. The GCC is a critical enabler of Officeworks’ purpose, by providing data-driven insights, trusted analytics, and scalable AI solutions that empower smarter, faster decision making and support sustainable success. This is a unique opportunity to join as a founding member of a newly established global hub. Early joiners will help shape how data, analytics and AI shape Officeworks, influencing future ways of working, building critical capabilities, and driving the evolution of some of Officeworks’ most important data and intelligence platforms.

Why this role exists: The Associate Engineer (Data) supports the development and maintenance of robust data pipelines by assisting with the ingestion, transformation, and validation of data sets. The role exists to ensure high levels of data quality and operational reliability within the enterprise data platform, helping the Technology function transition toward a democratized, self-serve analytics model. By supporting more senior engineers in the delivery of Snowflake and SAP-integrated solutions, this role enables Officeworks to leverage data-driven insights for improved commercial and customer outcomes.
Where you will make a difference: In this role you will:
Data Pipeline Support:
- Support end-to-end development, testing, and deployment of data pipelines.
- Assist with data ingestion from various sources, ensuring successful transformation and loading into the enterprise data platform.
- Perform basic debugging and troubleshooting of data workflows to ensure continuity.
Data Quality and Validation:
- Execute routine data quality checks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of business-critical information.
- Validate data outputs against requirements to support reliable reporting and analytics.
- Identify and escalate data anomalies or inconsistencies to senior team members.
Operational Excellence and Improvement:
- Contribute to the documentation of data structures, processes, and system configurations to retain institutional knowledge.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within daily data engineering tasks.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency of the data engineering hub.
Technical Growth and Alignment:
- Develop proficiency in core enterprise tools including Snowflake, dbt, and SAP BTP.
- Support the alignment of data engineering activities with the broader enterprise data strategy and AI initiatives.
Who you will be working with:
- Data Engineering Team: Collaborate daily with other Engineers and Technical Associate Managers for guidance and task delivery.
- Quality Analysts: Partner with QA Associate Analysts to ensure data work meets functional requirements and quality standards.
- Internal Stakeholders: Interact with cross-functional partners to understand data requirements and delivery timelines.

- Reliable Delivery: Data pipelines and ingestion tasks are completed on time and meet defined technical specifications.
- Data Integrity: High standards of data quality are maintained, with minimal errors reaching production environments.

Qualifications and work experience: Essential:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in a data-related or technical support role, or a strong internship background in data engineering.
- Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT processes, and SQL.
- Tooling Awareness: Exposure to or fundamental knowledge of cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, AWS, or GCP).
- Adaptability: Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills suitable for a professional corporate environment.
Preferred:
- Specific Tools: Experience or certification in dbt (data build tool) or SAP BTP/BW.
- Industry Context: Exposure to retail or omnichannel business environments.
