Assistant Professor - Sociology

Role & responsibilities

Teaching courses: Assistant / Associate / Professors of Sociology typically teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses, including areas such as Social Theory, Research Methods, Rural & Urban Sociology, Gender Studies, and related specializations. This involves developing course materials, delivering lectures, facilitating discussions, and evaluating student performance. Faculty are also expected to develop and use multimedia teaching tools and online learning platforms. Conducting research: Faculty members are expected to actively engage in research within their area of expertise, often collaborating with students and colleagues. Responsibilities include writing research proposals, conducting fieldwork, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, and publishing in reputed journals. Advising students: Provide academic and career guidance to students, including mentoring on course selection, research projects, internships, and career opportunities. Contributing to the academic community: Participate in departmental and institutional activities such as committees, seminars, workshops, conferences, and academic collaborations. Also contribute by reviewing research papers and mentoring junior faculty members. Engaging in professional development: Stay updated with advancements in Sociology by attending conferences, workshops, and training programs.Monitoring developments in the field: Keep track of emerging sociological trends, policy changes, and societal developments relevant to teaching and research. Administrative responsibilities: Perform administrative and academic duties as assigned by the institution.

Educational Qualification

Graduate with Ph.D. in Sociology from a reputed University with strong research and project experience Post-doctoral research experience in India or abroad in Universities or research institutions (preferred) Teaching and research experience in areas such as Rural Sociology, Urban Sociology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Work, or related fields
