About this role
Role purpose:
Execute mechanical work packages for new and expanding BOPP, metallizing and CPP facilities, from drawing and BOQ review to equipment erection, contractor bill verification, commissioning and handover. Coordinate closely with process OEMs, civil, utilities, electrical, automation and production teams so that machinery is installed safely, meets approved drawings and is ready for reliable operation.
Reporting to
Project Manager or Head of Engineering
Work location
TSF project and plant locations, as assigned
Key responsibilities:
- Read and interpret OEM GA drawings, foundation and anchor-bolt plans, AutoCAD layouts, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment specifications and installation manuals. Identify clashes, missing interfaces and constructability issues; prepare drawing mark-ups and route revisions for approval.
- Prepare and review mechanical BOQs, material take-offs and tender scopes for machinery erection, structural steel, platforms, piping, ducting, insulation and ancillary works. Check quantities, specifications and boundaries against approved drawings and contracts.
- Verify contractor running and final bills against approved BOQs, site measurement books, jointly recorded quantities, material reconciliations, work completion records, quality clearances and contractual rates. Document deviations, extra items and variation orders before recommending certification to the authorized approver.
- Coordinate directly with BOPP/BOPE, CPP and metallizer OEMs on equipment delivery, unloading, preservation, installation sequence, foundation readiness, service connections, alignment tolerances, interface drawings, punch lists and commissioning schedules.
- Plan equipment erection and mechanical installation: rigging and lifting methods, access, staging, positioning, grouting, leveling, alignment, guarding and integration with upstream/downstream systems. Verify site work against OEM requirements and approved drawings.
- Supervise fabrication and installation of mechanical supports, platforms, piping and ducting within assigned scope. Check welding, NDT where specified, pressure tests, flushing, insulation, material identification and installation quality against approved inspection and test plans.
- Manage mechanical contractors and vendor teams on site; monitor manpower, daily progress, schedule, productivity, safety permits and quality. Escalate missing drawings, late deliveries, design changes and interface constraints with a clear recovery plan.
- Coordinate machine tie-ins with electrical, instrumentation, utility and civil teams; support FAT/SAT, pre-commissioning, dry runs, OEM trials and performance testing. Close mechanical punch points and hand over as-built drawings, test records, OEM manuals and maintenance information.
Management systems and compliance:
- Apply TSF Integrated Management System controls to mechanical projects, including inspection and test plans, document control, nonconformance and corrective action, change control, risk assessment and contractor evaluation.
- Apply ISO 45001 occupational health and safety controls to lifting, work at height, hot work, pressure testing, confined spaces and machine guarding. Coordinate with EHS on permits, emergency readiness and contractor training; OHSAS 18001 knowledge may be useful as legacy experience.
- Support environmental controls under ISO 14001, including waste segregation, oil and chemical spill prevention, noise and dust control, and equipment design interfaces affecting emissions or wastewater. Work with the IMS team on the ISO 14001:2026 transition where applicable.
- Support ISO 50001 energy management by checking that mechanical installation preserves specified efficiencies, insulation, leak prevention, metering access and design performance of driven equipment; assist with audits and corrective actions.
Desired Candidate profile:
- Bachelors degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering. A bachelors degree is preferred for independent design review and OEM interface management.
- Typically 7-10 years of mechanical project or plant-expansion experience, including site erection, piping, contractor measurements and commissioning. BOPP, CPP, metallizing, plastics, petrochemical or other continuous-process experience is preferred.
- Proficient in reading AutoCAD drawings, GA drawings, piping layouts and P&IDs; capable of BOQ preparation, quantity measurement and bill verification. Able to use AutoCAD for drawing review and mark-ups; hands-on drafting is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of equipment alignment, structural and piping installation, welding and testing, lifting plans, technical procurement, OEM documentation and construction quality records. Communicates clearly with OEMs, consultants, contractors and plant stakeholders.
