Assistant Manager - Supply Chain Management/Logistics

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Export & Import Logistics & Documentation professional with strong exposure to the Natural Stone. The role will manage end-to-end export logistics, documentation, shipment coordination, and compliance for heavy and specialized cargo. The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of stone export operations, container optimization, sea-worthy packing, VGM, customs procedures, freight negotiation, and coordination with factories, transporters, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and ports.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage end-to-end export logistics and documentation for Granite, Marble, ceramic tiles and Engineered Stone.
• Manage end-to-end import logistics and documentation for Timber.
• Handle Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin, Shipping Bills, and other export & import documents.
• Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, CHA/customs agents, transporters, and port authorities.
• Plan and optimize 20ft container loading considering stone weight, payload limits, dimensions, and destination-country regulations.
• Coordinate VGM, factory stuffing, container movement, and port clearance.
• Coordinate and negotiate ocean freight rates and shipping schedules for heavy-weight containers.
• Ensure sea-worthy packing, wooden crates, fumigation, lashing/choking, and cargo protection.
• Coordinate movement of finished stone from quarries/factories to Chennai Port and ensure shipment readiness.
• Manage OOG cargo, open-top containers, breakbulk, or special handling requirements, wherever applicable.
• Coordinate factory inspections, loading supervision, container sealing, and shipment readiness.
• Monitor ETD, ETA, container movement, customs clearance, and delivery status.
• Resolve issues related to weight restrictions, port delays, documentation, container availability, demurrage, detention, and shipment schedules.
• Maintain export records and prepare shipment tracking reports and logistics MIS.
• Coordinate with Sales, Production, Finance, Warehouse, and other internal teams for timely execution of export orders.

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

• Strong practical knowledge of Natural Stone / Granite / Marble / Engineered Stone exports.
• Good understanding of export & import documentation, customs procedures, and international shipping.
• Knowledge of heavy cargo and container weight optimization.
• Experience with stone packing, wooden crates, fumigation, and cargo protection.
• Knowledge of OOG, breakbulk, and open-top container shipments will be an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of Chennai Port operations and inland transportation.
• Excellent vendor coordination, negotiation, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
• Good working knowledge of MS Excel.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

• Graduate in Logistics, Supply Chain, Commerce, or a related discipline.
• 7 TO 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in Natural Stone / Granite / Marble / Engineered Stone exports.
• Hands-on experience in heavy cargo export logistics and international documentation will be preferred.
