Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Civil & Structural Design Engineer / Engineering Assistant Manager to lead civil and structural engineering activities for utility-scale solar PV projects.
The candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, review, and coordination of civil and structural systems, including module mounting structures (MMS), foundation systems, site grading, drainage, internal roads, equipment foundations, inverter and transformer stations, control buildings, and associated infrastructure.
The role involves civil / structural design and coordination with electrical, mechanical, geotechnical, surveying, project execution, procurement, and vendor teams to ensure safe, economical, constructible, and timely engineering deliverables in compliance with applicable codes, project specifications, and client requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities
A. Solar PV Plant Civil Engineering Design
- Lead civil engineering design activities for utility-scale ground-mounted solar PV plants.
- Review topographical surveys, geotechnical investigation reports, soil parameters, hydrological data, and site conditions.
- Perform and review site grading, cut-and-fill calculations, earthwork quantity estimation, and finished ground level development.
- Design stormwater drainage systems, including surface drains, culverts, cross-drainage structures, and erosion protection measures.
- Design internal access roads, equipment access roads, road crossings, and associated civil infrastructure.
- Develop civil layouts and coordinate plant grading, road networks, drainage, equipment locations, and foundation layouts with other disciplines.
- Prepare and review civil design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, BOQs, and engineering documentation.
- Assess site-specific challenges such as uneven terrain, expansive or weak soils, high groundwater levels, flooding, and erosion.
B. Structural Design – Module Mounting Structures (MMS) – Fixed tilt
- Perform and review structural analysis and design of solar PV module mounting structures for fixed-tilt.
- Design and validate structural members, posts, rafters, purlins, bracing systems, connections, and supporting components.
- Evaluate wind loads, seismic loads, dead loads, maintenance loads, and other applicable loading conditions in accordance with project requirements and relevant standards.
- Design and review foundation systems for MMS, including driven piles, bored piles, micro-piles, RCC foundations, and other suitable foundation solutions based on site conditions.
- Assess pile capacity, uplift resistance, lateral resistance, settlement, and structural stability using relevant geotechnical data and design criteria.
- Review pull-out test, pile load test, and other foundation testing results and coordinate necessary design modifications.
- Review vendor drawings, structural calculations, material specifications, and fabrication details for MMS and tracker structures.
- Optimize structural configurations, foundation quantities, steel consumption, and construction methodologies while maintaining safety and design compliance.
C. Foundations and Associated Structures
- Design and review foundations for ICRs, IDTs, power transformers, auxiliary transformers, switchgear, RMUs, and other electrical equipment.
- Design RCC foundations, equipment pedestals, pile caps, retaining walls, cable trenches, and underground utility structures.
- Design control rooms, SCADA buildings, security buildings, warehouse structures, and other associated RCC or steel structures, as required.
D. Quality Assurance and Design Optimization
- Ensure compliance with applicable IS codes, project-specific standards, client requirements, and relevant international standards.
- Identify design risks, construction constraints, and opportunities for value engineering and cost optimization.
- Support the development and validation of standardized engineering calculations, design templates, and automation tools.
- Coordinate with engineering software developers, where applicable, to validate calculation modules and automated design outputs.
- Ensure design solutions are safe, economical, practical to construct, and suitable for long-term plant operation.
Essential Technical Skills
- Utility-scale solar PV plant civil and structural design.
- Solar module mounting structures (MMS), including fixed-tilt structures.
- Wind load analysis and structural design of solar support structures.
- Foundation design for solar MMS, including driven pile foundations and other site-specific foundation systems.
- Geotechnical interpretation, pile capacity assessment, uplift and lateral resistance checks, and foundation optimization.
- Site grading, earthwork calculations, stormwater drainage, internal roads, and erosion control.
- RCC and structural steel design, equipment foundations, cable trenches, and associated plant infrastructure.
- Interpretation of topographical surveys, geotechnical reports, vendor drawings, and project specifications.
- Engineering calculations, design reports, drawings, BOQs, and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Working knowledge of applicable Indian Standards and relevant international standards specified by the project.
Software Skills
- STAAD.Pro, Auto CAD, Civil 3D (preferrable)
- ETABS, SAFE, RCDC, or equivalent software for RCC and building design, as applicable.
- Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations, quantity estimation, and design automation.
Educational Qualification and Experience
