Artificial Intelligence Engineer

Senior AI Application Developer (Backend Focus) mPokket is looking for a backend-focused AI Application Developer to build scalable AI-first products and intelligent backend systems from the ground up. This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about backend engineering, distributed systems, LLM integrations, AI agents, and modern AI-assisted software development practices. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in designing production-grade systems, integrating AI models into real-world use cases, and building resilient backend services that can scale efficiently. You will work closely with product and engineering teams to ship AI-powered capabilities rapidly while maintaining high standards of reliability, performance, and developer productivity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Key Responsibilities • Design and build scalable backend systems, APIs, and microservices for AI-powered applications. • Integrate LLMs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Llama, and open-source models into production workflows and customer-facing use cases. • Build AI agents and multi-step workflows using frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar orchestration platforms. • Develop Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, orchestration layers, and AI-driven decision systems. • Implement agentic workflows with memory, tool usage, chaining, and function calling capabilities. • Build highly reliable microservices with strong focus on scalability, resilience, observability, and cost optimization. • Implement resilience patterns including retries, fallbacks, rate limiting, and fault tolerance for AI services. • Work with databases, queues, caching systems, and external APIs to support backend infrastructure. • Use AI coding tools such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot to accelerate development, debugging, testing, and engineering productivity. • Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to rapidly ship and iterate on AI features. • Take ownership of features and services from design through production deployment and monitoring. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minimum Qualifications • 3–5 years of strong backend software development experience. • Strong coding expertise in Python or Java; experience with Go is a plus. • Proven experience building scalable REST APIs and microservices-based systems. • Strong understanding of system design, concurrency, distributed systems, and backend architecture principles. • Hands-on experience working with LLMs including OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source AI models. • Experience with AI agent frameworks such as LangChain Agents, LlamaIndex Agents, or similar technologies. • Familiarity with workflow orchestration patterns including multi-step reasoning, tool integration, and chaining workflows. • Strong experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. • Familiarity with Docker, cloud environments, and modern deployment workflows. • Experience using AI coding tools effectively with the ability to validate, review, and optimize generated code. • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to work in fast-paced and evolving startup environments. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Preferred Qualifications • Experience building RAG pipelines and working with vector databases such as FAISS, Pinecone, or Weaviate. • Exposure to event-driven systems and messaging platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ. • Experience designing agentic systems involving planning, memory, and tool integration. • Familiarity with prompt engineering techniques and LLM evaluation methodologies. • Experience with self-hosted LLMs such as vLLM, Ollama, or similar frameworks. • Exposure to fine-tuning, model optimization, or inference optimization workflows. • Prior startup experience or experience building products from 0 → 1 is a plus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
