Job Summary
The Analyst I - BI Development is responsible for designing, delivering, documenting, and continuously improving trusted analytics products that support the operational effectiveness of the Human Resources Group. This role owns higher-complexity solutions from discovery and requirements definition through data preparation, semantic modeling, visualization, release, adoption, ongoing support, and retirement.
The Analyst I - BI Development partners with HR Analytics leaders, business analysts, and subject matter experts to translate business questions into governed metrics, scalable data models, intuitive dashboards, automated analytical workflows, and clear technical and user documentation. The role operates with a high degree of independence, leads major deliverables or workstreams, resolves ambiguity, mentors less experienced team members, and manages HR analytics stakeholder expectations.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of higher-complexity analytics products, from discovery and solution design through development, deployment, adoption, ongoing support, enhancement, and retirement.
- Lead major deliverables or workstreams with limited oversight, translating ambiguous stakeholder needs into clear scope, success measures, requirements, technical outputs, delivery plans, and recommendations.
- Manage product backlogs, communicate scope and tradeoffs, demonstrate progress, and balance new development with reliability, production support, and technical-debt reduction.
- Identify delivery risks, data limitations, technical dependencies, and stakeholder-alignment issues early and recommend practical mitigation actions.
- Review deliverables before release for technical accuracy, usability, data quality, governance alignment, stakeholder readiness, operational supportability, and business value.
- Mentor less experienced team members through technical guidance, peer review, coaching, and reinforcement of documentation, testing, and development standards.
BI Development Analytics Products
- Design, develop, test, publish, maintain, and continuously improve governed dashboards, scorecards, reports, analytical applications, and self-service analytics solutions in Power BI.
- Apply the approved analytics design system, including established standards for layout, navigation, typography, visual hierarchy, color, accessibility, interaction patterns, and reusable components; obtain approval before introducing exceptions.
- Create reusable BI components, templates, measures, and solution patterns that improve consistency, scalability, and development efficiency.
- Perform complex ad hoc analysis and convert recurring requests into scalable, automated, and maintainable analytics products when appropriate.
- Monitor product adoption, gather stakeholder feedback, and improve solutions to increase usability, trust, and business value.
Data Preparation, Modeling Quality
- Develop and optimize analytical datasets, dimensional models, and semantic models in BigQuery to provide consistent, reusable, understandable, and performant business metrics.
- Write advanced SQL to transform, combine, validate, reconcile, and analyze large or complex datasets while optimizing performance, maintainability, and cloud costs.
- Use Python and pandas to profile, cleanse, reshape, validate, reconcile, and analyze data and to automate repeatable data-preparation, quality, and reporting processes.
- Partner with data analysts, data architects, and the Data Office to ensure analytical datasets and models support approved business requirements and BI use cases.
- Establish testing and monitoring for data accuracy, completeness, timeliness, consistency, and usability.
- Investigate data and reporting defects, identify root causes, document findings, and implement or coordinate durable corrective actions.
