Job Description – AML Data Product Owner

The AML IT function within BNP Paribas CIB's CEFS-technology delivers an end-to-end IT platform supporting the bank's AML program. It converts regulatory and compliance rules into scalable, secure IT solutions to detect, investigate, and report suspicious activity globally.

As the technology backbone, it processes transaction data into actionable AML insights, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and innovation.

    Position Purpose

This next-gen AML role strengthens BNPP Group's defences against financial crime by leveraging cutting-edge tech and innovation.

As AML Data Product Owner, you will own the vision, roadmap, and delivery of the AML Data Layer platform. The role blends AML and payments expertise with product ownership, stakeholder management, and agile delivery to meet regulatory, operational, and business objectives across the Group.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Define product vision & roadmap – Set a clear strategy for the AML Data Layer, prioritizing requirements and aligning them with overall AML goals.
    • Stakeholder management – Serve as the main liaison between compliance, operations, risk, technology, and regulators; run workshops and briefings to capture needs and secure buy in.
    • Agile backlog ownership – Write and groom user stories (including Gherkin/BDD where appropriate), define acceptance criteria, and maintain a ready backlog for sprint planning.
    • Regulatory & payments expertise – Translate FATF, EU AMLD, OFAC and payments industry rules (PCI DSS, PSD2, ISO 20022, etc.) into actionable product requirements.
    • Solution design & validation – Work with architects and data engineers to validate data models, APIs, and integration patterns that support high throughput payment flows; lead PoCs and present outcomes to governance bodies.
    • Performance & quality assurance – Define KPIs for data quality, latency and detection effectiveness; partner with QA to embed test automation (e.g., Selenium, Cucumber) and CI pipelines.
    • Change management & adoption – Produce release communications, training materials and support plans to drive user adoption across compliance and payments teams.
    • Continuous improvement – Champion agile best practices, BDD techniques and data governance standards; mentor junior team members on AML, payments and product ownership.

    Required Skills & Experience

    Mandatory Skills:

    • Domain expertise: ≥ 5 years in AML or payments compliance, with deep knowledge of payment and other transaction flow data and related regulatory frameworks.
    • Product ownership: Proven experience delivering data intensive platforms in an Agile environment, handling backlog definition and sprint delivery.
    • Stakeholder influence: Demonstrated ability to work with senior business and technical leaders, translating ambiguous needs into clear product goals.
    • Agile & BDD: Strong command of Scrum/Kanban, writing user stories, acceptance criteria and using BDD tools (Gherkin, Cucumber).
    • Data modelling & APIs: Hands on experience with data model design, SQL/PL SQL, REST/Swagger API specifications and data lineage concepts.
    • Analytical mindset: Skilled at data driven problem solving, monitoring performance metrics and turning insights into product decisions.
    • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; able to simplify complex AML concepts for diverse audiences.

    Nice To Have Skills

    • Experience with NICE Actimize SAM, UDM, ActOne or similar AML platforms.
