AI Engineer - .NET / Azure OpenAI

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced AI Engineer with strong C#/.NET backend development skills and hands-on experience building Generative AI applications using Azure OpenAI or Azure AI Foundry.

The candidate will help design and develop an AI-powered IT Service Desk Assistant integrated with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot. The assistant will understand employee queries, retrieve answers from approved enterprise knowledge sources, recommend and order IT services, create and track ServiceNow tickets, and execute approved IT actions securely, with human oversight where required.

This role is ideal for a software engineer who combines strong backend engineering with practical experience in LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents and enterprise application integration.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain AI-powered backend services using C#, .NET and ASP.NET Core. Build conversational workflows, intent handling, orchestration, tool calling and conversation state management. Develop AI agents using Microsoft Agent Framework, Azure AI Foundry, Semantic Kernel or comparable agent frameworks. Integrate Azure OpenAI models and implement effective prompting, structured outputs and function calling.
• Design and implement RAG pipelines to retrieve accurate, context-aware responses from approved enterprise knowledge sources. Work with Azure AI Search, embeddings, vector search and document processing. Implement content safety, response validation, access-controlled retrieval and fallback mechanisms. Evaluate and improve the accuracy, relevance, reliability and groundedness of AI-generated responses.
• Develop AI assistant capabilities for Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Integrate using the Microsoft 365 Agents SDK and implement single sign-on (SSO), adaptive cards and conversational user experiences. Ensure secure authentication and authorization for employee-specific requests and actions.
• Integrate AI agents with ServiceNow and other enterprise systems through REST APIs. Enable knowledge retrieval, service catalogue discovery, service requests, incident creation and ticket tracking. Integrate with identity, device and IT service management platforms as required. Ensure actions are authorized, scoped to the requesting user and subject to appropriate confirmation and approval controls.
• Develop and deploy applications using Azure services such as Azure App Service, Azure Functions, AKS, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault and Cosmos DB or equivalent services. Apply secure coding practices, least-privilege access, secrets management and audit logging. Implement confirmation steps for sensitive actions, error handling, rollback mechanisms and human escalation. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, troubleshooting and production support.
• Build golden question sets and automated evaluation workflows for AI responses. Measure answer quality, relevance, groundedness, safety and tool-calling accuracy. Establish quality thresholds and automated release gates before deploying changes. Use Python for model evaluation, data preparation, testing and related AI engineering tasks.
• Work closely with Service Desk teams, ServiceNow administrators, Security teams and enterprise knowledge owners. Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver reliable, production-ready solutions. Help establish reusable components and platform capabilities that enable other business functions to develop AI agents.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Several years of professional experience in backend software development using C#, .NET and ASP.NET Core.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices, enterprise integrations and software architecture.
• Hands-on experience developing LLM-powered applications using Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry or comparable platforms.
• Practical knowledge of Generative AI concepts, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and prompt engineering; Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG); Embeddings and vector search; AI agents, orchestration and tool/function calling; LLM evaluation and response-quality improvement.
• Experience with Azure cloud services, preferably App Service, AKS, Entra ID, Key Vault, Cosmos DB or equivalent services.
• Working knowledge of Python for AI evaluation, data preparation, testing or related development tasks.
• Experience integrating enterprise applications using REST APIs.
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, least privilege, secure data access and auditability.
• Ability to develop, test, troubleshoot and support applications through the complete software development lifecycle.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative team with end-to-end product ownership.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Microsoft Agent Framework or Semantic Kernel.
• Experience with the Microsoft 365 Agents SDK and Microsoft Teams AI integrations.
• Microsoft 365 Copilot extensibility experience.
• ServiceNow integration, including incident management, service catalogue, knowledge and service requests.
• Experience with Azure AI Search and enterprise knowledge retrieval.
• Familiarity with automated LLM evaluation, guardrails, observability and LLMOps.
• Experience with CI/CD, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Docker or Kubernetes.
• Relevant Microsoft Azure or AI certifications.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a hands-on software engineer who combines strong .NET backend engineering with practical Generative AI and agent development experience. The ideal candidate has built or contributed substantially to AI applications and understands how to integrate LLMs with enterprise APIs securely and reliably.

Candidates with only traditional .NET development experience, AI certifications or basic usage of ChatGPT/Copilot without hands-on AI application development may not be suitable for this position.
