About this role
Job Title: Assistant General Manager (AGM) / Deputy General Manager (DGM) Automation & Instrumentation
Department: Engineering / Advanced Manufacturing
Reports To: Plant Head / Vice President of Engineering
Role Summary
The AGM / DGM of Automation & Instrumentation is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the digital transformation, control systems architecture, and automation roadmap across manufacturing facilities. This position is critical for leading large-scale capital projects—particularly greenfield expansion initiatives—and ensuring the seamless integration of advanced manufacturing technologies. The leader will direct cross-functional teams in the design, deployment, and optimization of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLC frameworks, and field instrumentation, while establishing robust OT networks and industrial cybersecurity standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Greenfield Execution
- Project Lifecycle Management: Lead end-to-end automation strategies for new greenfield site setups and capacity expansions, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within CAPEX budgets.
- Vendor & Partner Management: Negotiate and collaborate with major technology vendors, OEMs, and system integrators for the procurement and commissioning of heavy automation equipment and software.
- Team Development: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of automation engineers, instrumentation technicians, and programmers.
Advanced Control Systems & Robotics
- AGV Fleet Strategy: Oversee the facility-wide integration and traffic management programming of AGVs to optimize automated material handling and plant logistics.
- PLC & DCS Architecture: Design and approve the overarching architecture for complex PLC and DCS networks, ensuring standardized programming and seamless plant-wide communication.
- Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by leveraging control and instrumentation data to enhance machine efficiency, yield, and throughput.
OT Network & Industrial Cybersecurity
- OT Infrastructure Leadership: Architect and govern robust, scalable Operational Technology (OT) networks that bridge the gap between plant floor operations and enterprise IT systems.
- Cybersecurity Governance: Define and enforce basic-to-intermediate industrial cybersecurity policies to safeguard critical control systems, SCADA, and DCS networks from vulnerabilities and unauthorized access.
- Data Integrity & Recovery: Implement disaster recovery protocols and centralized backup systems for all localized automation programs and factory floor networks.
Field Instrumentation & Reliability
- Reliability Engineering: Transition the plant from reactive troubleshooting to predictive maintenance models for all field instrumentation, sensors, and control loops.
- Escalated Troubleshooting: Act as the ultimate technical authority for resolving complex, chronic breakdowns involving electronic circuitry, field instruments, and automated workflows.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all automation frameworks and field equipment comply with rigorous industrial safety standards, including functional safety (SIL) and comprehensive LOTO protocols.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Instrumentation & Control, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics.
- Experience: 12 to 18+ years of progressive experience in industrial automation, with at least 5 years in a managerial or functional leadership role overseeing large-scale manufacturing operations or greenfield project execution.
- Core Technical Skills:
- Mastery of automation architecture, including PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems.
- Extensive experience designing and scaling OT Networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet) and deploying fundamental Industrial Cyber Security frameworks.
- Proven track record in integrating and managing large-scale AGV systems.
- Deep expertise in Field Instrumentation specification, calibration, and advanced Troubleshooting methodologies.
- Leadership Skills: Strong stakeholder management, ability to influence strategic plant operations, and excellent cross-functional communication abilities.
