About this role
We are looking for an experienced Frontend Developer to build fast, accessible, and high-performing websites on Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Edge Delivery Services (formerly Franklin / Helix). You will develop reusable blocks, work closely with authors and designers, and help deliver digital experiences that consistently score high on Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain AEM EDS blocks, sections, and templates using vanilla JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
- Build websites using the AEM Boilerplate and the EDS project structure (blocks, scripts, styles, head.html, fstab.yaml).
- Implement Universal Editor (xwalk) based authoring - define component models, definitions, and filters (component-models.json, component-definition.json, component-filters.json) so blocks are fully editable in the Universal Editor.
- Optimise for performance: E-L-D (Eager, Lazy, Delayed) loading, image optimisation, and achieving a 100 Lighthouse score and strong Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP).
- Work with AEM as a Cloud Service author, Universal Editor, and preview/live publishing workflows for EDS.
- Build and consume JSON-based data sources, query indexes, and redirects; integrate third-party APIs and martech (Adobe Analytics, Target, Launch/Tags) without affecting performance.
- Convert Figma/XD designs into responsive, pixel-accurate, and accessible (WCAG 2.1 AA) components.
- Collaborate with content authors to create author-friendly block structures and write authoring documentation.
- Participate in code reviews, maintain code quality with ESLint/Stylelint, and follow Git-based workflows (GitHub, pull requests, AEM Code Sync).
- Troubleshoot cross-browser, CDN caching, and rendering issues; support migrations from AEM Sites (traditional) to EDS where required.
Required Skills Qualifications
- 4-7 years of frontend development experience, with at least 1-2 years hands-on on AEM Edge Delivery Services.
- Strong expertise in vanilla JavaScript (ES6+), semantic HTML5, and modern CSS (Flexbox, Grid, custom properties) - without dependency on heavy frameworks.
- Solid understanding of EDS concepts: blocks, auto-blocking, decoration, fragments, metadata, placeholders, and the three-phase loading model.
- Hands-on experience with Universal Editor (xwalk) authoring on EDS, including component models, definitions, and filters.
- Working knowledge of AEM as a Cloud Service author environment (content structure, publishing, Cloud Manager).
- Good knowledge of web performance optimisation, Lighthouse, and Core Web Vitals.
- Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub and pull-request based development.
- Working knowledge of web accessibility (WCAG), SEO best practices, and responsive design.
- Familiarity with CDN concepts (Fastly, Akamai, Cloudflare) and caching behaviour.
- Strong debugging skills using browser DevTools.
