    About this role

    Academic Mentor

    Company: Infinity Learn
    Function: Academics / Student Success

    About the Role

The Academic Mentor is the academic owner of an allotted student cohort and follows each learner's journey through the year: baseline, assessments, improvement, retention and renewal. You are the main academic point of contact for students and parents. You work with faculty and academic operations to spot learning gaps early, act on time and show measurable improvement.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Student Academic Growth

    • Own the academic progress of every student in your cohort.
    • Set a baseline and track attendance, participation, homework, assessments and school exam performance.
    • Maintain a RED / AMBER / GREEN (RAG) status for each student.
    • Identify at-risk students early and diagnose the cause: concept gap, practice gap, attendance, engagement or motivation.
    • Create student-specific intervention plans with faculty and track them until improvement is visible.
    • Move students from RED to AMBER to GREEN, and escalate cases that are not improving.

    2. Parent Engagement and PTMs

    • Be the go-to academic contact for parents throughout the year.
    • Run structured PTMs at the defined frequency, with extra sessions for RED/AMBER students.
    • Present where the student started, current performance, gaps, RAG status, interventions and the next milestone.
    • Close every PTM with three actions: one for the student, one for the parent and one for the academic team.
    • Document parent feedback and close all commitments made.
    • Communicate concerns proactively and counsel on study habits, exam preparation and attendance.

    3. Student Retention

    • Own the retention % of your cohort.
    • Watch for churn signals such as falling attendance or scores, low participation, missed assignments and parent disengagement.
    • Follow the recovery process: Identify Diagnose Intervene Follow-up Recover.
    • Maintain an At-Risk Student Tracker with owners and closure timelines.
    • Record and analyse dropout reasons to find preventable causes.

    4. Renewal Ownership

    • Own the renewal % of eligible students.
    • Build the renewal case through the year using baseline vs current performance, test trends, RAG movement and successful interventions.
    • Present each student's "Year of Growth" and next-year academic plan to parents before the renewal window.
    • Work with counselling/sales teams to complete renewals, and document reasons for non-renewal.

The Academic Mentor creates the academic reason to renew; the commercial team completes the transaction.

    5. Tutor and Faculty Quality

    • Track class audits covering subject accuracy, batch health, concept clarity, pedagogy, pace, engagement and doubt resolution.
    • Link student performance trends to classroom delivery.
    • Give tutors specific, documented, actionable feedback and track whether it leads to improvement.
    • Escalate recurring academic-quality issues.

    Eligibility and Experience

    • Bachelor's/Master's in Mathematics, Science, Commerce, Education or a related field; teaching qualification preferred.
    • Experience in teaching, online teaching, academic mentoring or student success.
    • Strong school-level subject knowledge and the ability to diagnose learning gaps from performance data.
    • Experience managing a student cohort and driving measurable improvement.
    • Retention and renewal accountability preferred.
    • EdTech, test prep or K-12 experience is an advantage.

    Skills and Competencies

    • Analytical and diagnostic ability
    • Student mentoring and counselling
    • Parent communication and relationship management
    • Structured, outcome-oriented PTMs
    • Handling dissatisfied or disengaged students and parents
    • Faculty observation, coaching and feedback
    • Ownership and follow-through, and managing a large cohort systematically
    • Comfort with dashboards, spreadsheets and online learning platforms
    • Excellent written and spoken English and Hindi; a regional language is an advantage

    What Great Performance Looks Like

For every student, you can always answer:

    1. Where did the student start?
    2. Where are they now?
    3. What is their RAG status, and why?
    4. What intervention are we running?
    5. Is it working?
    6. Does the parent understand the progress?
    7. Is the student at risk?
    8. Are they likely to renew?
