3D Configurator

Role & responsibilities 3D Configurator

• Import and prepare 3D models received from 3D artists and position them correctly within the configurator scene.
• Set up and organize 3D scenes, templates, layouts, cameras, and lighting for accurate product presentation.
• Configure and fine-tune materials, textures, shaders, and surface properties for different product components.
• Work with existing UV maps and UV layouts to ensure accurate placement of textures, logos, text, and artwork.
• Configure different product colourways, materials, and component variations.
• Configure customer personalization options such as names, numbers, lettering, and custom fonts.
• Configure logos, images, decals, and user-uploaded artwork and ensure correct mapping onto product surfaces.
• Configure product sizes, measurements, dimensions, and size-based model variations.
• Set up conditional logic and configuration rules to control which options are available, hidden, or restricted based on customer selections.
• Configure default states, presets, and starting configurations for products.
• Configure pricing rules for product options that require additional charges.
• Test all available configuration options and combinations to ensure the product behaves correctly.
• Perform systematic testing across desktop and mobile devices.
• Monitor and optimize 3D loading, rendering performance, scene complexity, textures, and overall responsiveness.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues related to models, meshes, UVs, materials, textures, lighting, configuration logic, and rendering.
• Work with basic JavaScript to understand, modify, and debug existing configurator functionality.
• Work with Three.js / React Three Fiber where applicable to support browser-based 3D experiences.
• Prepare and optimize 3D assets for web-based real-time rendering, including glTF/GLB assets where required.
• Integrate configured products with Shopify, WooCommerce, or other e-commerce platforms.
• Ensure product configurations, selected options, pricing, and customization data are correctly connected to the e-commerce order workflow.
• Validate the final production output generated from customer configurations and ensure it accurately represents the customer's selections.
• Collaborate with 3D artists, designers, developers, and e-commerce teams throughout the product configuration lifecycle.
• Maintain clear documentation of configuration rules, product options, dependencies, and known issues.
• Provide regular progress updates and proactively communicate blockers or technical issues.
• Take ownership of assigned products from 3D model setup through configuration, testing, optimization, and production validation.
